MV Research : Research Into Potential Artist / Album / Song Choice

I have identified 3 potential artists for who to base my music video on.

1) Declan McKenna - Isombard

Declan Benedict McKenna (born 24 December 1998) is an English singer, songwriter and musician. He initially gained recognition for winning the Glastonbury Festival's Emerging Talent Competition in 2015. McKenna self-released the song "Brazil", a protest song criticising FIFA and the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil, as his debut single in December 2014. It gained recognition after its re-release in August 2015. 

Isombard released as part of the album 'what do you think about the car?'it was Mckennas debut studio album and was released worldwide on 21 July 2017, through Columbia Records. It consist of 11 tracks

I selected Isombard for the music video as I feel the fast pacing would be good to edit and the lyrics, particularly in the chorus ' If you can't walk then run' would able me to implement a narrative such as a character moving in a certain way. Moreover I could potentially add some performance elements into the video such as drumming. 

2) The Royal Concept - On our way

The Royal Concept is Swedish pop rock band founded in Stockholm in 2010. It currently consists of lead vocalist and guitarist David Larson, lead guitarist Filip Bekic, bassist Robert Magnus, and drummer Frans Povel.

On September 11th 2013, the band released the single "On Our Way", and announced the title of their debut album, Goldrushed, which was released in Sweden on September 11, 2013. That autumn the band toured with American Authors and Misterwives around North America. Their album 'Goldrushed' consists of 13 tracks

I selected this song as I have an idea for a narrative which follows people travelling, this would give us the opportunity to include a variety of establishing shots and editing effects, similar to the ones in the original however I don't want to directly copy elements of what the Royal Concept have done, however I want the actors in my video to travel to various locations and affects that have elements of first person perspective, similar to the image i included below.




3) The Chevin - Champion 



The Chevin are an English post-punk revival band,[stylistically similar to Indie Rock] based in Leeds, who formed in 2010. The band is composed of four childhood friends, Coyle Girelli (lead vocals and guitars), Mat Steel (guitars and keyboards), Jon Langford (bass guitar) and Mal Taylor (drums). The band gets their name from The Chevin, a ridge overlooking their home town of Otley, West Yorkshire.

Their Song 'Champion' was produced in 2011 but not released until 2013 as part of their studio album 'Borderland' 

I selected the song Champion from the album as I feel the chorus would able me to include elements of slow motion footage for a potential narrative, conventionally these would consist of a glass smashing or something dropping etc, moreover the lyrics could also play into a narrative and the heavy instrumentals mainly through drums mean i could also include elements of performance in an ambiguous location similar to the original video.
